Candy Crowley Becomes The Story

Regardless of who you support, the first rule of journalism is that the journalist must not become the story. Candy Crowley has become the story.

Personally, I believe that those watching the debate would be best served with the conversation being primed and the moderator staying out of the way other than to enforce time constraints and other agreed to rules as best they can. That’s why the first debate moderated by Jim Lehrer was such a good debate. Well, not so good for President Obama, but for those watching, it was great. If there’s a time that a candidate should be flying without a net, a debate is that time.

However, Candy Crowley has decided to inject herself into the debate. In a perfect world, whenever she does, both candidates would simply ignore her and ask for the next question from the audience.
